1953 Buick Skylark

1953 Buick Skylark - Details

The 1953 General Motors Motorama was held at the New York Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Introduced was one of the most unique and exceptionally desirable production cars ever built – The 1953 Skylark Convertible, and only 1693 of this model were made.

Starting with their top-of-the-line Roadmaster Convertible, the Skylark body construction and custom styling from the factory were enhanced and accentuated by a lower windshield and 3-4″ were removed from the sides of the car to give it a lower appearance. This car is exactly the same as the day it was delivered from the factory in 1953, after a 4-year restoration in our body shop. It was one of our most challenging restorations, as each and every detail are exactly “as original” and no expenses were spared. Painting was done by Matt Willoughby and the quality exceeds factory specifications.

1953 Skylarks were sold to the rich and famous (movie stars and others). If special ordered, the owner’s name was embossed into the center of the steering wheel. This car was custom made for Margaret A. Enos of St. Petersburg, Florida, later sold to Rhea C. Kline in 1986. This car was a “barn find” from the 2nd owner. Mileage of 3369 is believed to be original – likely the lowest mile Skylark in existence.

We would like to have displayed the car as an original, but since sitting in a barn for so many years, a total restoration was needed and completed in 2023. The original paint and undercoating were removed to bare metal. Since the car had been sitting for so long, we had the engine and transmission professionally rebuilt. The interior and top were replaced by Portage Trim in Ravenna, Ohio. The trunk lining and wiring were replaced in our TP Tools body shop. All other components were either replaced or reconditioned.
